Dried Instruments

These are instruments I made from some of the dried kelp that hung around the beach. The orange one with the bulb can be played like you would blowing over a bottle, with a similar sound. The curved long one is open at both ends so I could play it like a Persian ney for a clear sound.

The wooden contraption with the kelp rope was meant to be a bullroarer, an instrument I had only read about, never seen nor heard. So it didn't really work. But I did manage to attach the piece of wood securely enough that it survived my attempts. And by the way, that kelp rope was really strong. I couldn't break it at all even using my teeth, except at the end where I broke it off of course.

I like to make things. I left the instruments in a safe place on the beach for someone else to find. Hopefully someone appreciated them.
